Our sisters who arrived from Spain in the first group on Feb. 12^th 1940 were Sister Adelaida Biada, Sister Paz Garcia, Sister Angelina Beramendi and Sister Milagros Val. Two months later Sr. Ana Jimenez and Sr. Magdalena Villanueva, two Spanish sisters from the Philippines joined them. In 1947, ten more Sisters joined them, and in 1949 five more, all of them from Spain.

In March 1949 a group of five sisters joined them. Two more arrived in 1951 and in the year 1959 another batch of four arrived. The last batch of 3 sisters was sent from Madrid in 1966.These were the valiant women who volunteered to face the challenges of a new country, new culture, new climatic conditions – in short a life of adventure in the mission stations spread out in the small towns, and forests of the then Ganjam, Phulbani Dists. Their lives proved the qualities of their character and adherence to Christ and their mission.  Needless to add, they continue to be our role models today.  In 1949, the first group for the five Indian Sisters Francisca K, Teresa Patanany, Mary Jesus, Esabel Mukula and Teresita Kunnapally, after their formation in Spain joined them in the challenging mission stations.

In this way they laid the foundations of our Indian Provinces. From among our dear Spanish Sisters, the Province is privileged to have Sr. Enedina Costilla active and renders her loving service to the sick poor in Aligonda, Orissa.
